Library Policies

  • Students have the opportunity to visit the Manson Secondary Library daily and I consider it my duty to give them access to information for both educational purposes and personal interests.  I pledge to make each library visit a rewarding one as reading is not only one of life’s greatest joys, it is also one of the most important skills a child can develop in their lifetime.

Number of Items: Students are limited to the number of items for which they can be responsible! (typically 2-3 items)

Checkout Time Limit: Students may keep books for two weeks and possibly renew them if needed. Students are encouraged to return items to the library as soon as they are finished so that other students have access to the material and they can check out new books themselves.

Tablets: May be checked out for two weeks with pre-approved parental permission.  Tablets maybe renewed for an additional two weeks at librarians discretion.

"E" vs "H" Books:  As our library serves 6th through 12th graders we have labeled our books "E" for everybody and "H" for high school students.  These codes are displayed on the spines of our library books for easy reference.  Rest assure all books are typically "Youth" rated using "Renaissance" codes as a reference.  Students in the Middle School with parental permission may read "H" books.  Please see Ms. Martin or access the following links for forms.   "H" Book Consent Form in English     "H" Book Consent Form in Spanish

Overdue Fines: We do not charge fines for overdue books; however, students must return overdue items before new items may be checked out. Students who have overdue books are able to read books and magazines in the library, but are unable to take them home.  Overdue notices are distributed quarterly just as a reminder to students to be responsible for materials they have checked out.

Lost/Damaged Books: If a book has been lost, please report it to me so that I can update the library catalog and inform you of the replacement cost, which will be billed to your student’s account. Students may begin to check out books as soon as the item has been accounted for in the library catalog. Students who habitually lose books and do not pay for them will be limited to using items only in the library.

If you have any concerns or questions about these procedures, please contact me to discuss the options.  Parents are always welcomed and encouraged to stop by and to say "Hello" and see what is going on in our library.
